Everything You Need to Know About Chinese Vintage Watches and More

In my life of research, I rarely find everything I need in one place. If I collected Vintage Chinese Mechanical watches, I would have My VCMs  as my home page. Since I don't collect those watches, I use it as a virtual museum - a complete one.

The home page has this to say:

"Since the 1950s China has produced a remarkable number of beautiful and well-designed watches. This archive shows some examples of its excellent output, mostly from 1965 to 2000.

"myvcms.com wouldn't be possible without the hard work and kind help of many people, most of whom are involved in the following projects."
The website is filled with information other than pictures of watches. I use it to track down manufacturers.  It also provides links to additional sites rich with information about Chinese watches, such as the Alberta  Museum  of Chinese Horology in Peace River.

To enter the trove of materials you have to select the link, Click here to see my collection. That leads to a page with navigational links. You can search by:

Watches by Brand
Watches by Province/Municipality
Watches by Factory

Or you can see his entire collection.

I recommend starting at the top, but I use the third link to assist me in identifying the source of watches made today.

As I wrote before, China does not have a global watch brand. The vintage makers of Chinese watches produced them for internal/domestic consumption. China's economy runs on the production model - making stuff for others, such as cases, crystals, bands, boxes and so forth. The brands they make today, are primarily for the same purpose, domestic consumption and sales in Asia.

If you want a look as a remarkable culture, check out myvcms.com and his list of links.

Her's one of my watches - a reissue of a watch produced in 1963.
