Quirky But Popular KS Kronen & Söhne Skelteon Watch

This is one of  Kronen & Söhne most popular watches. They sell it on several web sites such as eBay under the title KS Transparent Skeleton. This model comes in Rose Gold, but some sellers refer to it as Chocolate.

It has a classic Cushion Design with a current larger frame and a see-thru skeleton sans dial. Look close and you'll see subtle extras like the hour markers.

The stainless steel case is plated using a process called PVD or Physical Vapor Deposition. The method involves vaporizing gold or other kinds of metal in a vacuum and by manipulating temperature and pressure coat the host (in this instance a stainless steel case) with a extremely tough and wear resistant coat or plating. NASA developed the current process in 2010.

Kronen & Söhne uses this process on the cases of watches they acquire for resale.

Why is this watch quirky?

As you can tell from the photos, it's a cool looking design that combines several popular features to form a luxury Art Deco style watch. To achieve the look, they deploy a stripped down movement by redesigning the bridges and plates and the keyless works.

When you wish to set the time, you have to unscrew the crown cover. The crown does not wind the mainspring. It only allows you to change the time by moving in a clockwise manner.

The design is innovative.

This watch goes well in casual or dress settings. It draws attention if you wear it with a suit or tuxedo. I have done the former.
