A Really Bad Kronen & Sohne KS Watch - Someone Along the Sales Channel Deceived Buyers

by Tom Adelstein

It's called the  KS Golden White Royal Carving Steampunk Skeleton Dual Automatic Men Sport Watch.

Sometimes copywriters get carried away. They listen to a product guy, who listened to a supplier and suddenly an unsubstantiated stream of words flow into an advertisement and on an eBay listing.

Notice the Phrase: Dual Automatic

You may have seen the photo on the right if you browse the Internet for nice looking automatic mechanical watches.

I do, because it's my business. This watch is heavily influenced by several Breguet Tourbillion models, not the dome of Saint Stephens Church as stated by the copywriter. (more below)

The copywriter stretched his design comments. I could live with that.

I ordered this watch like I have many others from the same seller on eBay. I expected the watch to arrive working, as usual. It did not work.

Aside from all the other hats I wear as a writer, I studied watchmaking at the Institute of Jewelry and Horology. A non-working mechanical watch would not stop me, I would just fix it.

What did I discover? This watch is a hoax. First, it's not an automatic. It's a quartz watch. Additionally, the copywriter claimed the movement is a Miyota 7T35. It's not. The movement is a cheap Singapore knockoff. You should be able to see the difference between a Miyota and the one with the sloppy glue job in the watch casing.

I also wonder about the so-called mechanical movement. It's a decoration. When you pick up the watch or move your hand to see the time, a wheel that looks like a normal balance wheel turns. It also makes the second hand move for two revolutions.

To give the appearance of an automatic watch, the creator of this thing, put a wheel in a clear window of the back of the watch to give the appearance of a winding rotor. It just doesn't connect to anything and it doesn't budge if you attempt to wind it. Why? Quartz watches don't wind.

What do you think about this? You don't have to answer that. I will.

First, take a look at how many of these things are for sale on eBay.

I have no idea why someone put such a tiny movement in such a big watch unless he or she wanted to deceive us into thinking it's a big automatic mechanical watch.

What about me?

I got my money back. Of course. In a couple of hours. Then I looked for and found another model from the seller.

I'm not going to give this seller bad feedback. They have always been good to me. I think they're a good organization. Also, the seller didn't do this. A watch manufacturer fooled a buyer of the company that sells this watch to koo_titina

The seller did everything right. He's a 5 Star and Top Rated and I like him. I know he will put this right, because he's responsive. He shipped quickly and the watch arrived ahead of schedule. He always packages his watches well. He's not a horology specialist.

I'm a journalist and have had several beats in my career.I didn't expect to run into this.

My job is to inform. I'm just lucky the watch didn't work.
